Careers Information for Students

The links below provide access to some helpful information about potential careers and choices which students may find useful.

Start

As part of our ongoing and expanding Careers provision and commitment to prepare all students for a rapidly changing world, we are using an innovative online resource called Start.

Start will help your child to connect with their future career potential, develop their employability and help them to explore future career and study options. Start is a fantastic resource for students in years 9, 10, and 11 exploring which options they would like to do at GCSE, A-Level, T-Level, Apprenticeship and university. Start is easy to use and there are a wealth of activities as well as a personalised locker where students can record their achievements and build their portfolio. We recommend that students create their profile in year 7, so they can continually add to their locker throughout their time at Frogmore.

Your child will personalise their profile on Start with details about their skill, qualities, interests and work preferences. This provides a starting point for them to explore information matched to their personal preferences and interests. As they continue to update their profile, Start will personalise this information, helping to navigate the thousands of jobs, courses, providers and opportunities available. There are also thousands of job profiles on the site, so students can browse careers that might interest them, find out the pathway and necessary qualifications to that career, as well as the working hours, average pay, and local availability.

To register for Start, please follow the instructions in the link below:

Farnborough Sixth Form interviews

All of our interviews for Farnborough Sixth applicants were due to take place in January, however, due to the latest Lockdown Farnborough Sixth have had to change this arrangement. Please read the announcement below:

Following the Government’s announcement on Monday 4 January 2021, Farnborough Sixth Form College have taken the decision to revise their plans for these interviews, which were due to take place from Monday 18 to Friday 29 January 2021. They feel that it will be extremely difficult to coordinate the efficient delivery of these interviews given that they are all having to teach remotely. They also appreciate that students will likely feel extremely anxious and unsure about their future options given the uncertainty surrounding this year’s GCSEs.

The new arrangements are as follows:

  • The majority of students who have applied will be offered a place at the College without having an interview. This offer will be based on the reference Frogmore Community College has provided, as well as the student’s application form.

(Please note that the offer of a place does not guarantee automatic acceptance onto chosen courses; Farnborough Sixth Form College expect students to work hard to meet the individual entry requirements for each course).

  • If there are applicants that they have concerns about, they will be interviewing these students and will contact them directly to arrange this.

The Sixth Form College are still planning to run their usual series of events for applicants, including Getting Ready Day, which will help students to decide whether Farnborough is the right next step for them and assist with their subject choices. Applicants will be sent this information in due course.
