In Year Admissions

You can make an In-year application if your child needs to join the school outside of the normal admissions round.

You must not withdraw your child from their current school until you have secured a place for them at another school.

Applications can be made if:

  • You are moving house, and your child cannot continue at their current school
  • Your child is being educated at home, and you wish to transfer them to a mainstream school
  • Your child is already at another school, and you want to move them to a different one

How to apply:

  • You can apply for an in-year school place for your child at any time
  • Applications are processed in the order received and offers are made as soon as a place becomes available
  • We always act in the best interests of the child
  • Once a place is allocated and the family confirms the move, the child is expected to start as soon as possible to ensure continuity of education

Required documents:

  • The person applying should be the one with parental responsibility for the child. If you are unsure of your status, submit your application with a covering letter explaining your situation
  • You will need to attach or upload 2 types of proof of residency. Additionally, if applicable, please include any supporting information such as:
    • Professional evidence for exceptional/medical/social claims
    • Proof of a change of address
    • Proof of arrival in the UK

Application process:

  • Applications will be processed and outcomes communicated as quickly as possible, usually within 15 school days of receiving your fully completed application form
  • You must respond to any offer of a place within two weeks. The offer will explain how to accept or decline the place. If you do not respond in time, the offer may be withdrawn
  • Once a place is accepted, your child will normally start within 10 school days, unless there is a good reason for deferring the start, which is usually allowed until the start of the next half term

Waiting lists:

  • If we are unable to offer you a place, we will explain why and add your child’s name to the waiting list
  • Waiting lists are ranked according to our Admission Policy, and your child's position may change as children with greater priority are added
  • Waiting lists are disbanded at the end of each academic year, so you will need to make a fresh application for the following year if you still wish to be considered
  • If you do not receive an offer from your preferred school, you have the right to appeal. Please refer to the appeals section on our website for more information

All information regarding In-Year applications and any offers made will be shared with Local Authority Admissions within 2 days. You can apply online through the In-Year Online Portal or request a paper copy of the application form from Hampshire School Admissions by calling 0300 555 1377 or visiting this link.
